Parking
Directions: |
Take Green Valley Rd near the
western end of El Dorado County. At Sophia Parkway turn
north, and park anywhere along the side of Sophia Pkwy on either side
of the road. |
Hazards of
Note: |
Rattlesnakes, ticks, poison
oak, mountain
lions. |
|
Crowd Factor: |
High. This is a very
popular and easily accessible trail, and on weekdays, and especially
weekends there will be many other hikers, bikers and dog-walkers out on
the trail. |
General Notes:
From your parking spot head south to the intersection of Green Valley
Rd and Sophia Parkway and cross with the light. From this
side of the road the trail starts, with a sign displaying information
on the construction being currently done on the Folsom Lake Dam a few
miles to your west. The trail immediately heads up the hill,
and at the top of the rise you will continue straight around the lake.
Once at the top of the hill follow the trail down to the left
toward the rocky dyke which heads west with the lake to your right.
Follow along the top of this dyke for about a mile until it
reaches a metal gate on the other end, and then turn to your right.
Follow the dirt paths to your north which will lead to the
parking and picnic area for Folsom Point in just about a half a mile.

|
|
Walking
along the dyke you have a lot of construction (in 2015) on the left
side as they work to improve the quality of the dyke, but on the right
side you have a nicer view across the lake. |
|
|
A closer look at Folsom Point
as you get about 1/2 way across the top of the dyke. |

The difference between winter
and summer on this trail is amazing.
